Abstract :  Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC) is a recently developed construction material that has high compressive and tensile strength together with high durability and fluidity. In order to apply the advanced material behavior of the UHPC to structures, we need a reasonable design guidelines based on the theory and experimental verification. This paper presents systematic development of K-UHPC design guidelines. Since 2007, Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology (KICT) has improved UHPC’s economic feasibility while upgrading its mechanical behavior (K-UHPC). To apply K-UHPC to structures, KICT also performed various tests and developed design formulas. KICT’s comprehensive material tests, real scale structural member tests and theory development places emphasis on the utilization of high compressive strength, high and ductile tensile strength, and the use of the rebars if necessary. Based on this research, K-UHPC design guidelines was developed, and successfully applied to K-UHPC bridge designs and constructions from simple to cable stayed bridges.
