Abstract :  Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC) with a compressive strength between 150 MPa and 250 MPa and outstanding durability properties offers civil engineers possibilities to designlight weight concrete structuressimilar to steel structures, but considerable better in durability. There are thin walledstructures and such structures with clear separation between tensile and compression zone. Modular constructions with dry joints and high prestressing forces offer afurther type of UHPC constructions. Thussuch constructions can be mounted rapid and in high quality independent from weather conditions. With its dense microstructure UHPC is also suitable for strengthening and topping of old structures. This papergives the main structural criteriafor the optimaluse of UHPC and presents the main ongoing research projects at the institute of structural concrete of Graz University of Technology. Furthermore, somerecent applications of UHPC in cooperation with König and Heunisch Consulting Engineers, Germany, are presented.
