Abstract :  Use of Architectural Fair-Faced concrete (exposed concrete) camouflaging with fancy architectural finishes creates an excellent blend of structure and traditional architecture. While Hotel building find less quantum of fair faced concrete, monumental structures have a good proportion of fair faced concrete. This paper discusses effect of various shuttering materials, such as steel marine ply, resin coated ply, fiber glass, plastered brick, effect of tamping the shuttering, effect of decentering time, effect of cement type, effect of form release agent, effect of edge protection, effect of white and grey cement combinations, effect of reinforcement, effect of rubber liners for shuttering etc. It was found through studies that resin coated ply gives better surface finish compared to marine ply due to negligible surface water absorption. Use of different downloading agents has been found to give concrete surface colors. For that matter, even deshuttering time also has a minor effect on the concrete surface color. Similarly, different types of cements give different colors of concrete. Even slag cement and flyash cement gives different colors of concrete. Mixing of white and grey OPC can lead to different colors of concrete. Reinforcement close to concrete surface can lead to cracks and darker lines due to high heat of the reinforcement in summers.
