Abstract :  The performance of concrete continues to be pushed to new levels. New skyscrapersapproach 1 km in height, demanding concrete of high compressive strength and modulus, excellent pumpability, and long durability. The precast industry produces more than 50% of its concrete using self-consolidating concrete, requiring high fluidity and static/dynamic stability. Usage of supplementary cementing materials is reaching >70% replacement levels of cement as the binder system, where the setting and hardening characteristics of the mixture need to beneficiated. All of these are examples where chemical admixtures make the desired concrete performance possible. In this paper, a few of the new developments in water reducer, set accelerating and durability admixtures are discussed.
