Abstract : Concrete is premium construction material throughout the world and widely used in marine environment. The environment is highly aggressive in coastal areas and requires special precautions in selection of construction materials, mix proportioning, design and construction methods to increase durability of concrete in such conditions. The paper describes the mechanism of deterioration, choice of proper materials and design criteria to improve the durability of concrete structures in marine environment.
