Abstract : In recent years, higher axle loads have required that many older bridges sustain loads in excess of those assumed during bridge design. Bridge owners are also faced with problem of deteriorating bridge infrastructure. Most of these bridges need some level of strengthening due to increases in live loads or loss of capacity due to deterioration. But before suggesting a proper strengthening scheme, scientific study of the bridge is a must. The paper briefly describes the scientific approach of load testing through a case study of a bridge.
