Abstract : Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors were designed, deployed and investigated for distributed strain sensing in a concrete bridge. Packaged FBG sensors have been developed for embedding in the concrete structures. The performance of the FBG sensors has been recorded in a concrete beam under loading condition and results are encouraging. The paper describes experimental details of grating fabrication and their implementation as sensing element for the bridge structures; the study is first of its kind in India.
