Abstract :  It is a well-known fact that, ambient temperature has a significant effect on the development of strength and other properties of concrete. Although, the grade of concrete is decided based on the strength attained by standard specimens cured at a defined temperature; in practice the temperature within the concrete element would influence the strength of concrete in situ is the ambient temperature condition. Very often, construction processes, such as cycle-time and stripping of form-work depend on the development of these properties, which can be difficult to predict, as is in the case of cold weather. Thus, a numerical simulation platform called ThermoFEM3D has been developed to study the effect of variable ambient conditions on the development of mechanical properties and the porosity of concrete. Using mix parameters such as - cement content and water to cement ratio, this programme can be used as a tool to ensure the safety of structures during variable weather conditions.
