Abstract :  Hitherto, construction has been mostly limited to simple structures. Of late, with innovations in design, the structures have become more complicated. Structural designers are taking up challenging designs such as long span and tall bridges, flyovers and metro rails. Even in residential, commercial and institutional buildings, heavy rafts, transfer level structures, shear walls, etc., are being used. Innovations in designs by structural engineers need be complemented with equally good methods of concrete handling, placement, compaction, curing, etc., to ensure that structures comply with the design parameters. The paper describes the scientific methodology that should be adopted in mass concrete works. The successful application of the methodology is also described as a case study
