Abstract : The housing shortage in India has grown rapidly and has become a matter of concern. With a view to provide affordable housing to the vast Indian population, the author suggests that adoption of construction technology involving casting of all the elements such as supporting walls, beams, columns, roof slab monolithically together in reinforced concrete by using aluminium form/similar form work, will be more appropriate. Such construction can be done with faster speed and has proven to be disaster resistant. The author has termed this technology as RMD (Rapid, Monolithic, and Disaster-proof). The salient features of the technology along with advantages and limitations are discussed. The author also highlights the use of the technology with some case studies.
