Abstract :  Concrete structures are not always durable unless its performance specifications are dealt with. Structural design, exposure conditions and special requirements demand tailor-made materials for durable and sustainable infrastructure. This paper highlights properties, advantages and applications of three innovative micro fine materials: (A) micro- fine cementitious material (B) micro fine supplementary material and (C) ultrafine ground granulated blast furnace slag to improve performance characteristics of concrete/formations. While the product "A" is meant to apply in soil consolidation, ground water sealing, etc., product "B" having low pH is essentially required to use for special applications in underground repository work and in hydraulic structures. Product "C" is a high performance improver in concrete. It improves workability, workability retention, cohesiveness in the fresh state and compressive strength and permeability in the hardened state of concrete. The authors conclude that these new products possess great potential to meet the challenges of infrastructure construction in India and abroad.
