Abstract : The last few decades saw considerable increase in awareness about corrosion. New materials and methods as remedies and precautions are also introduced. These include use of special materials like corrosion resistant steel, coated steel, high performance concrete and coatings on exposed concrete surface. Extending the life of existing structures affected by corrosion also makes use of these materials. However, a close study of the construction methods will establish that the basic behaviour and initiation of corrosion can be traced to the inaccuracies in construction practices. This paper attempts to highlight these factors.
