Abstract :  This article discusses potential development of predictive models for deteriorating reinforced concrete (RC) structures. In the initial phase, need of the data repositories containing relevant condition assessment data is emphasized. The basic framework is then conceptualized for data repositories of condition assessment data, with particular attention to data variability. Accordingly, procedures for efficient data collection, aggregation, and retrieval i.e. efficient data management systems are schematized. In the following phase, some commonly used predictive modelling techniques are cited and their possible applications to model deterioration of RC structures are briefed. To illustrate the proposed concepts and the deterioration specific approach, development of a preliminary predictive model for consistent characterization of repair urgency in corroding RC structures is discussed. Advantages and limitations of the proposed concepts are discussed and it is inferred that, predictive models based on the structural condition assessment data can facilitate improved understanding of the deterioration in RC structures. Better utilization of the condition assessment data facilitates improved decision making and could also prove to be very useful for structural designers
