Abstract : This paper begins with a survey of the significance and problems of concrete in relation to the predicted significant increase in the construction investment in the future. It then overviews the current state of CO2 emissions of fossil fuel origin and estimates the current and future amounts of CO2 emissions and resource use by the concrete industry. Finally, the current state of ISO standards related to the sustainability of concrete is outlined.
