Abstract :  Weight of structure can be reduced by a) By using light weight materials b) By using materials of high strength to reduce the size of members c) By changing method of construction as cavity walls, hollow floors, hollow beams d) By shaping the structure to optimum form e) By multiple use of structural members Ferrocement satisfies all these requirements and should be treated as ' A Single Material Technology' for Light weight constructions. With high strength in compression, tension, & shear , a thin walled construction, weight reduction of structural elements is possible. Weight to strength ratio of Ferrocement walls is double that of RCC. Ferrocement can be easily shaped in various forms to have favorable stress distribution or the section with full utilization of strength of Ferrocement and full section of members. Ferrocement can be fruitfully used to build a member of building components as one unit. This use as multiple members reduce the weight of a building substantially.
