Technical Programmes

During the past years, the Institute conducted several seminars and training programmes on various topics related to concrete technology and recent development in concrete construction.

Large organizations avail the in-house training programmes arranged by ICI at their projects. A total of 24000 engineers and supervisors have attended ICI seminars/training programmes so far.

The Indian Concrete Institute has conducted a number of artisan training programme in the various Building Centres in Tamilnadu and Kerala. The programme included demonstration of production of R.C.C. and ferrocement products for use in rural India.

Concrete day is being celebrated by the Institute through all the centres on September 7th each year, the day in which the Institute was formally registered as a Society. On this day special lectures are organized. In addition, outstanding concrete technologists in each centre are honoured. Also outstanding structures are selected for award.

The Indian Edition of the well-known book 'Concrete Micro Structure, Properties and Materials' by Prof. P.K. Mehta and J.M. Monterio have been published for the benefit of the students and practicing engineers. The demand for this book is so much that we had to go for a second reprint. Also Proceedings of the Indo-US Workshop on Non-destructive Testing of Concrete Structures' has been brought out as a special publication. Please click here to see the latest publications.

Four monographs on (1) Concrete Admixtures (2) Durability of Concrete Structures (3) Formwork for Concrete and (4) High performance Concrete have been brought out.

Has brought out 'Guide for Good Concrete Construction’ - Hindi Version has also been published.

As a first publication, the story of the Pamban Bridge has been brought out as a booklet.

Now covers technical papers in each of the quarterly issues. Technical abstracts of papers from national and international journals are also provided. This Journal is under exchange circulation with a number of international professional bodies. Please click here to see the current issue.

ICI offers an industry advisory service for problems solving in design, construction, maintenance and repairs.

The Institute, as a part of ten-year anniversary celebrations organized an International Symposium on ‘ICI-Innovative World of Concrete’ in September 1993 at Bangalore. This event ICI-IWC has been made as a quinquennial congress of ICI and in November 1998,the second ICI-IWC was held in Kolkata. The third was held in Pune. The fourth one was held in delhi during 2008.

In addition, an Asian Conference was also organized on the theme ‘Ecstasy in Concrete’ during 20-22 November, 2000 in Bangalore. 2005 event held in Mumbai. The proceedings of the conference are available at CD Roms as well as in printed book.

Video films have been produced on ‘Concrete Construction Practices’ and ‘Formwork and Scaffolding’ with the aid of DSIR, Government of India. In addition, video on ‘Concrete Reinforcement’ has also been produced.

The founder President of the Institute Dr.M.Ramiah has instituted Endowment Lecture on "Quality in Construction". An eminent concrete technologist will deliver this lecture during the Annual General Meeting of the Institute.
